The members
GEFLECHT brought together Hans Matthäus Bachmayer, Reinhold Heller, Florian Köhler, Heino Naujoks, Helmut Rieger, Helmut Sturm and HP Zimmer. Lothar Fischer and Heimrad Prem left early in 1966; they did not share the new direction.
Anti-objects
GEFLECHT put shared work before individual genius. By way of prints and cardboard constructions the group arrived at its anti-objects: hybrids of painting and sculpture in wood, sheet metal and wire, with sweeping forms in bright colours.
A manifesto of 1965 placed the collective work above the single author. Technology and cars supplied many of the motifs.
The cellar on Herzogstrasse
In 1967 the group moved into a cellar on Herzogstrasse in Munich, a place for social and political debate. From 1968 the cellar also served as an exhibition space.
GEFLECHT broke up in 1968, its last works mostly prints. Seven years later the Kollektiv Herzogstrasse took up collective painting again.
